Eco-Friendliness
Eco friendliness, durability and sustainability were key components when designing, building and furnishing Best West Eco Lodge & Leisure. The accommodations are constructed with CLT (Cross Laminated Timber) hardwood from Austria, which is known for its low impact on nature. They are furnished with a lot of energy efficient and lower impact modern commodities, but also with a touch of the Island's old authenticity and look. Some of these features include the following:
- BWELL opted out as much as possible from the so-called "one-use plastic", therefore Instead of the small throw away plastic bottles for shampoo, conditioners and bath wash, we offer our guests these amenities in the eco-friendlier refillable dispensers, while also supporting the locally produced and internationally renowned products of the Curacao Aloe plantation, CurAloe (https://www.aloeveracuracao.com/).
- For the same reason we also opted out of as much paperwork as possible, providing our guests with the more modern post-Covid contactless and paperless self-check-in and /-out services and options. This, in combination with smart locks, offers our esteemed guests the convenience of keyless entry while also reducing the frequent usage of plastic and other materials necessary for keycards and other types of keys.
- Furthermore, rainwater is collected in cisterns underneath the construction, recycled and used on the property.
- Locally crafted wooden shutter windows and doors allow for an optimal enjoyment of the fresh coastal breeze throughout the apartments, so you can be "blown away". The breeze is refreshing from the front door through to the pool view terrace at the back of the one-line long shaped apartments.
- The 100% blackout thermal curtains offer extra privacy, coolness and noise reduction from the outside, while reducing energy use. Please note however that even though we did our best to isolate outside noise as much as possible, because of the wooden shutters, other materials used, and options made for the construction the building is not completely isolated.
- Linen and towels (including pool towels!!!) are washed after every stay and provided once for every new stay, to lower the environmental impact of doing laundry. For the same reason each accommodation is cleaned after each departure. However, if desired and requested the towels and/or sheets can be refreshed twice a week and the accommodation can be cleaned once a week, for stays longer than 7 days.
- We also opted out of the traditional pool pump and chlorine water for our pool and chose an environmentally friendlier inverter pump, salt chlorine generator and a copper water ionizer to reduce the use of harsh chemicals and energy.
